Rumin (short for ruminate) is the brainchild of bassist Russ Stedman ( earthtone9 2012-2016) ( Just a Ride 2019-2022) and guitarist/producer Andy Ellis, affiliated with Paul Roberts (ex Stranglers).

After years of playing metal/hard rock/grunge, Russ came to Andy to explore making music with groove, funk and experimental timings, while keeping that hard rock energy. 

Ricky Gallimore (Gallimore ), self proclaimed die-hard NIN fan, was recruited in early 2023 and provides passionate vocals with deep, introspective lyrics, dealing with subjects such as alienation, mental health struggles and finding the energy and determination to overcome these challenges.

The heavy hitting drum grooves were provided by Mark Woodard (Ex Graces Collide ) who left the project in mid 2023.

2024 proved prosperous with the addition of David Hervás to the drum seat and a surge of new material.

The lyrics in CHANGE - ‘Ruminating on the past years, gotta look out the window’ was the inspiration for the name RUMIN, which fitted perfectly with the approach Russ and Andy have taken with the writing - painstaking attention to detail, overthinking and at times fear of progression because the project was so close to their hearts.

Horizontal/Vertical is the product of both vertical thinking - looking forward, yearning for progression - and methodical, exploratory, horizontal thinking - drilling down into fine detail before feeling happy to move forward. Combined with passionate, contemplative lyrical content this has produced rich, multi-layered, intricate music that appeals to both rock and pop fans.
